Life becomes interesting and personally fulfilling when you have an art business that
is completely integrated. From initially selecting and representing
the artists to printing the art prints; to sales, marketing
and distribution; not to mention owning and operating one of
the largest and most beautiful galleries/ showcases in the country;
there is no limit to the creativity that is brought to your
life. Imagine the challenges and rewards of planning exhibitions
and events, being surrounded by art and actively working with
artists. Getting up in the morning is no longer a problem. And
travel always seems much more rewarding when the destination
is to meet with artists, art publishers, and gallery owners
in order to participate in shows like Art Expo New York or the
DRUPA or FESPA exhibitions in Europe or Asia.
Herta and Wayne have been married for thirty-five years and
have no children. This year Herta turned sixty and Wayne sixty-four.
They are both healthy and passionate about remaining in business,
but it’s never too early to start thinking about how
to ensure the future of Kolibri. We are open to some kind
of a 50/50% partnership with a buyout provision for the remaining
50% of our interest five to ten years down the line.
If you are already in the art business, all the better. If
not, don’t worry because Herta and Wayne will continue
to actively operate and grow the business for the next five
to ten years. There will be plenty of time within that period
to learn about the industry and contribute your own individual
experience, creativity, direction, and expertise in developing
the company. Herta and Wayne both openly embrace the idea
of the "right" individual or company joining them
as a partner. To them this not only represents their eventual
exit strategy to retirement, but also new energy for the business.
Since the beginning, Herta and Wayne’s primary objectives
have been to grow the business, build a strong reputation
for quality, and gain strategic positioning in the industry.
They refused to settle for being just another one-dimensional,
single-segment company in the art business. They have worked
diligently in building Kolibri, and every aspect of the company
has been a labor of love. The company is 100% pride of ownership
from top to bottom. Kolibri is an extension of vastly expansive
lives; having lived, created, and conducted business for years
in many interesting and exotic places.
Kolibri first opened its retail art gallery on November 29,
2002. It is a 10,000 square foot architectural marvel. The
word "dramatic" seems to come to most people’s
minds when attempting to describe their first impressions
when entering the gallery. Within its 25-foot ceilings and
custom designed floors are 12-foot, charcoal-colored, carpeted
walls adorned with beautifully framed limited editions and
original paintings. The floors in the gallery were custom
designed by the design company Fire in the Head. The technique
is a unique acid-wash process that chemically interacts with
the elements in the concrete, bringing out the myriad of intriguing
colors and natural textures. The floral design that graces
the floor acts almost as a tour guide, ushering you through
the many separate galleries within the two huge gallery rooms.
It can be easily found on the third floor of the Avenue of
the Peninsula Shopping Center in Rolling Hills Estates, California.
Rolling Hills Estates is a beautiful, upscale community located
in the rolling hills of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The peninsula
is only a fifteen-minute drive south from the Los Angeles
International Airport and is surrounded on the west by magnificent
cliffs bordering the Pacific Ocean. The community takes great
pride in keeping its environment clean and pristine. The area
is known not only for its beautiful scenery, but for miles
of equestrian country trails winding through marvelous private
estates, public parks, and gardens. Kolibri Art Gallery and
Fine Art Framing is located in The Avenue of the Peninsula
Shopping Center. The Center serves the people from such neighboring
cities and communities as Rolling Hills Estates, Rancho Palos
Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates, Torrance, San Pedro, Redondo
Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.
